Facts about online sex abuse January 15, 2007

Posted by Malene Charlotte Larsen in Internet Safety, Social Networking, Youth Culture.

I was reading an interesting blog post by danah boyd, a PhD student from UC Berkeley School of Information, about child abuse, sexual predators and the moral panic in the US. In this post she refers to an article by Peter Reilly called The Facts About Online Sex Abuse and Schools. In the article Reilly shares some data about sexual predators. One of the charts shows that 95% of child abuse and sexual abuse is perpetrated by family members (79% of the perpetrators are parents). Only in 5% of the cases the perpetrators are strangers who the children have met either online or face-to-face.

See for example this chart that puts some perspective on the threat from strangers – online or not:

Unfortunately, the individual who wrote this back in November 2007 suffers from a severe and persistent mental illness. The accusations that are made in this post are completely false and can be verified with the college of nurses. It would be nice to have this post removed from this blog to ensure that this is not the legacy that Mark carries on. He is one of the best nurses that I have ever had the pleasure to work with, and know as a genuinely compassionate, sensitive individual. This post however is a defamation of character, and needs to be removed immediately!!!!

Sad to see that the slanderous and un-true post is still on here about Mark Samuel. After his recent death, thousands of people looked to the internet to see this disturbing content…And YES there are people who believe EVERYTHING on the internet.

As Lisa mentioned on a post July 15th, 2014….It was a very mentally ill patient that wrote that “Official looking” comment. As I see in other posts on the same subject, she slandered other Doctor that provided her care as well (Almost word-for-word) In todays society there must be a better system to stop slanderous comments about Care-givers and anyone for that matter,

IF YOU ARE THE ADMINISTER OF THIS WEBSIGHT…PLEASE REMOVE THIS COMMENT about a man who dedicated his life to caring for the most challenging members of our society Please (On behave of his co-workers, friends and especially his family) TAKE IT OFF!!!
